Step One: Create a Certification Account

Prior to requesting an account, please read the GSMA Mobile Money Certification Policy and Process document. You will need to confirm you have read and understood the Certification Policies and Process before proceeding. In addition, you will need to attest that you meet the eligibility requirements for the GSMA Mobile Money Certification.

After you have read the policy document, and feel that you meet the eligibility requirements, please request a Certification Account in order to access the Mobile Money Provider Dashboard, where all documentation relating to your application will be stored.

Step Two: Certification Preparation

Login to the Mobile Money Provider Dashboard and conduct a detailed self-assessment. Ensure that you collate all of the required evidence for each of the criteria. You may wish to hire an Accredited Consultant (this is optional) to help you to complete the self-assessment and identify solutions to remedy any area of non-compliance. Once you are satisfied with your level of compliance and feel ready to be assessed independently, you can move to the next step.

Step Three: Certification Application

Login to your Mobile Money Provider Dashboard to access the Certification Agreement and submit it to the Scheme Operator to finalize. The GSMA Mobile Money Certification Secretariat will evaluate the request and be in touch with any questions. Once approved, an invoice will be issued, to be paid to the Scheme Operator, prior to moving on to the Assessment phase.

Step Four: Assessment

All Certification fees need to be received prior to the Assessment commencing. To begin the Assessment, login into the MMP dashboard. From here you will gain access to all indictors. You will need to be prepared to identify the documentation to show compliance, indicate where in the document compliance is met, provide comments on how compliance is met, and upload the documentation. The Assessor will then begin the detailed work of evaluating your compliance with the criteria in the Toolkit, by conducting document reviews, interviews, observations, and testing.

Online Assessment

After receiving the summitted indicators and the related evidence, the Accredited Assessor will begin the review all of the documentation via the online dashboard.

Virtual Assessment

The Virtual Assessment will include interviews, observations, testing, and evidence reviews during virtual meetings.

Reassessment

A reassessment will be required if non-compliance is found. Any items that the Assessor determines to be non-compliant will be flagged for the MMP on their dashboard, which will form the basis of the reassessment.

The mobile money provider will be required to address the issues indicated for the reassessment prior to the reassessment, which should be held within six months of the issue of the initial certification in order to maintain an active certification status.

Assessment Report

After completing the evaluation, the Assessor will submit an assessment report to the GSMA Mobile Money Certification Secretariat, along with a recommendation on whether the mobile money provider should become certified.

Step Five: Certificate Issued

The Secretariat will inform the mobile money provider if they have been successful, and issue the mobile money provider the Certification Certificate. The MMP will execute a Trademark Licensing Agreement (TMLA) in order to use the ‘GSMA Mobile Money Certified’ logo. The Certification is valid for a period of three years.
